Harry LaHood Park

In the Trails Edge subdivision, Harry LaHood Park will be located along Agnes Street, Kingsbury Road and Grandyle Drive. It features new playground equipment, a water play area, open play areas, sand volleyball courts and a small shelter. It also includes an extension to Washington’s beautiful Recreation Trail. It is named after Harry LaHood, a Washington resident who volunteered in the community for many years before his untimely death of a viral infection in 1999.

Doug Damery, executive director of the WPD, credits developers Jim Paul and Paul Gibb for donating the land for the park, and for getting the project off the ground. He also credits Jim Ash of STS Consultants for suggesting that the park district apply for an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development grant to help pay for the project.

This park has been made possible and funded in part by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, OSLAD Grant program.
