STUDIO 38 DANCE CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Jazz will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary to help develop a well-rounded dancer.

Ballet is a basic class that introduces the student to the elementary positions of classical ballet. Classes are slow and thorough to ensure proper alignment and understanding. Perfect for a beginner and a continuing class for students who have some knowledge of ballet or have danced as a child and wish to begin again.

Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement.

Hip Hop classes teach rhythm, coordination, musicality and choreography without suggestive music or movements. Our Hip Hop dancers develop focus, strength, and agility while having fun. This is an excellent class for high-energy kids who want to take a fast and fun dance class.

Break Dance is a dynamic and improvisational dance style with jumps, freezes, isolations, and rotations in movement. As students gain strength and coordination in their skills, they will learn more challenging breakdance elements at their own individual pace. Technique is the basis of all fundamentals of dance, from holding your body correctly while performing, to executing skills properly in a routine. Hand and arm placement, stances, turns, leaps, jumps, tricks.

Lyrical class is designed for intermediate to advanced students with previous training in ballet. Students will explore partnering and weight sharing exercises combined with basic techniques and skills from ballet, jazz and modern. It emphasizes interpretation of music lyrics while telling a story with movement that can be fluid or abstract.

Competitive level is a popular, widespread sport in which competitors perform dances in any of several permitted dance styles—open, acro, ballet, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, modern, musical theatre, and tap—before a common group of judges. Contact Studio 38 directly for these competitive level classes.
