What is the Foundation?

The Washington Park District Foundation (WPDF) is the private fund-raising division for the Washington Park District. WPDF is a not-for-profit philanthropic organization that is recognized under Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code.

Creation of the Washington Park District Foundation is in close partnership with the Washington Park District. The partnership enables us to expand opportunities to tap new sources of support not previously available. With your support, WPDF can provide more focused attention on private and corporate support, as well as, improve flexibility in resource management.

The Mission of the Foundation is:

To promote community and quality of life for all citizens by acquiring and distributing resources which enhance opportunities and advocate stewardship for open space, parks, facilities and recreational programs within the Washington Park District.

Building a Solid Foundation

The Washington Park District Foundation supports the following goals:

  1. To nurture financial support for Foundation projects;
  2. To pursue the acquisition of land and capital resources for active and passive recreation;
  3. To encourage community partnerships within the parks system;
  4. To serve as a catalyst and partner toward civic and community initiatives;
  5. To foster community awareness and use of parks and recreation.

Your generosity will provide Washington Park District with the opportunity to continue providing quality programs and facilities into the future.

Gifts to the Washington Park District or WPDF may be initiated by contacting our Development Director by emailing foundation @washingtonparkdistrict.com or calling 309-444-9413.

Why Support the Washington Park District?

As with every other public entity, limited tax resources can provide basic support for core programs and services of the Washington Park District. However, the WPDF must renew its efforts to find, secure, and expand other sources to augment tax support.

Quality parks and recreation opportunities, along with good schools and basic municipal services are among the biggest factors to quality of life in a community. The Washington Park District provides a number of programs, facilities and services for individuals of all ages and interests.

Why Give?

People give to the Park District or the Foundation for a variety of reasons. Some make gifts to support current programs or projects such as the Veteran’s Memorial, the Scholarship Program or the Washington “BARK” District, to name a few. Others give because they or their families have personally enjoyed and benefitted from Washington Park District programs, facilities, or projects. All give to ensure that the Washington Park District will have the resources to continue to provide quality programs and facilities into the future.

Gifts to the Foundation are tax deductible. Gifts may provide annual or estate tax deductions, along with the opportunity to improve Park District programs, parks, facilities and services. Please consult your accountant, attorney or estate planning professional.
